Outstanding Third Age Citizens Award
Since 2006, HK Electric and the Hong Kong Council of Social Service have established the U3A network to encourage lifelong learning and volunteerism among the local retired population. The “Outstanding Third Age Citizens Award” was introduced in November 2008 to recognise the achievements of retirees and to inspire others into making similar contributions to society.
All third age citizens in Hong Kong (permanent residents aged 50 or above who have retired from work or family responsibilities) who have demonstrated outstanding achievements and contributions in all of the following aspects in their retired life are eligible for nomination to the award:
- Pursuing lifelong learning and knowledge sharing;
- Enjoying and promoting a balanced and healthy lifestyle; and
- Active participation in social services, voluntary and charity work
The award scheme was launched in November 2008, with a total of 122 submissions received and 12 awardees selected, including:
- Ms. Wong Siu-yung
- Mr. Ng Tak-leung
- Mr. Lee Kam-chung
- Ms. Maria Lee Tseng Chiu-kwan
- Ms. Li Kwai-tin
- Ms. Chow Mun-yuk
- Mr. Cheung King-fung
- Ms. Dorothy Kwok Chi-tat
- Mr. Yip Pang-wai
- Mr. Lai Cheong-yin
- Ms. Kitty Siu Sze To-kit
- Mr. Chung Po-yang
