Electrical Appliances Safety Tips
Water Heater
Flash Water Heater
  • Employ only registered electrical contractors / licensed plumbers for the installation and alteration of the electric water heater including associated pipework and control valves.
  • Ensure that an unvented thermal storage type electric water heater is installed with safety devices.
  • Arrange to have the electric water heater inspected and maintained regularly by qualified persons. Stop using and switch off the power of a water heater immediately if steam is emitting abnormally from the shower or any vent outlet and arranges for repair by qualified persons.
Exhaust Fan
  • Keep children away when it is operating.
Washing Machine
  • Don't connect other appliances to the socket outlet supplying a washing machine.
  • Allow sufficient space for heat dissipation.
  • Avoid leaving an operating washing machine unattended.
  • Arrange for regular inspection and maintenance by qualified persons. If abnormal operating conditions occur, stop using it and arrange qualified persons for inspection and repair immediately.
Tumble Dryer
  • Don't connect other appliances to the socket outlet supplying a dryer.
  • Avoid placing a dryer next to a shower, a water basin or an open window to prevent the machine from being exposed to water.
  • Allow sufficient space for heat dissipation.
  • Don't place any vessel containing water on a dryer.
  • Avoid leaving an operating dryer unattended.
  • Don't exceed the maximum capacity and follow the user manual to set temperature and drying time.
  • Don't dry clothes containing downs, latex, rubber or wax, etc. to minimise the risk of fire.
  • Don't obstruct the outlet vent of a dryer, and clean its air filter regularly.
  • Arrange for regular inspection and maintenance by qualified persons. If abnormal operating conditions occur, stop using it and arrange qualified persons for inspection and repair immediately.
Hair Dryer /
Styler
  • Unplug a hair dryer / styler when it is idling.
  • Don't store a hair dryer / styler until it is cool.
Ceiling-Mounted Dryer
  • Employ only registered electrical contractors / licensed plumbers for the installation and alteration of the ceiling-mounted dryer according to the installation manual.
  • Arrange for regular inspection and maintenance by qualified persons. If abnormal operating conditions occur, stop using it and arrange qualified persons for inspection and repair immediately.
  • Allow sufficient space around the dryer body for heat dissipation.
  • Don't obstruct the exhaust pipe, water pipe, air supply and air return of a ceiling-mounted dryer.
