30 HMC Club members visited Heep Hong Society in Sandy Bay on 16 December where guest artiste Ms. Winnie Yeung played games with the children.

A group of 16 Japanese students visited the Centre in mid-December to learn Chinese cooking. Before the cooking session, Home Economist, Anita took them to a nearby wet market for an insight on Chinese fresh and dried food. The students were particularly interested in traditional Chinese herbal medicine. After that, they tried out cooking hot & sour soup and stir-frying chicken with pepper and enjoyed the lesson very much. |

Dr. Chow was invited to the Centre for a "Green Life Workshop" during which he introduced organic food and recipes. The green life advocate said most people had misconceptions tasty food might not be healthy and healthy food might not be tasty. He explained to members the green life concept, shared health tips and suggested cooking with vacuum cooker intead of microwave oven. He also told them to avoid excessive seasoning as it was not healthy.

HMC invited artiste Stephen Wong and his mother to a mooncake workshop. Although it was the first time Stephen made mooncakes, his "product" looked delicious. Stephen said making mooncakes with effective cooking appliances was not so difficult and he would share the cakes with his family.

A "Master Chef Competition" was held at the Centre on 21 September with eight contestants. The theme was "Summer Mix & Match" which focused on colour, taste, creativity and presentation of the dish. Mr. Chan Kin-leung emerged as the winner for his dish "Grilled chicken leg with peach and corn sauce".

More than 100 students from Cognitio College and 20 parents from "The Friend of Scouting" who visited the Centre in May and June were given cooking demonstrations and guided tours of the Electrical Appliance Display Centre.

Mr. Cho visited the Centre in June demonstrating two summer dishes. The artiste, who learnt cooking from his father, said cooking for the family was a sign of showing concern for his loved ones. Mr. Cho enjoys cooking so much he may celebrate his first Father's Day by preparing a meal to reward his wife for giving him a son.

Well-known culinary expert Leung Man-to visited the Centre in May, sharing cooking experience with more than 40 members and giving them tips on making traditional Tuen Ng dumplings. Mr. Leung said expensive ingredients did not necessarily mean good dishes. The "heart" the cook put in his effort was the most important ingredient, Mr. Leung said, as he demonstrated various healthy dishes using simple ingredients like pumpkin, eggplant and melon.

To celebrate Mother's Day, a special workshop on baking cakes was held in the Centre for students and office ladies. Under the guidance of a chef, they found the workshop enjoyable and each baked a fancy cake for their mother.

To further promote electric cooking, HMC held cooking demonstrations at the Wing On Department Store in Tai Koo Shing. The demonstrations of 16 dishes drew public awareness to the benefits of electric cooking.

About 20 students from The Church of Christ in China Hoh Fuk Tong College visited the Centre on 19 April. The programme included a cooking demonstration by Anita and a guided tour of the Electrical Appliance Display Centre at North Point.

Home Management Centre participated in ‘Hong Kong Flower Show 2008’ at Victoria Park. Home Economist demonstrated two dishes using edible flowers and received good response from audience. |

A special ‘Chocolate Workshop’ was held in Mid March. Students prepared fancy chocolate eggs to celebrate the Easter Festival. |

Two ladies from minority families came to Home Management Centre in February and gave a cooking demonstration on Pakistani and Nepalese Cuisines to HMC Club members. Dishes included the famous ‘Pakora’, ‘Chana Chat’ and ‘Masala Tea’. They also shared their lives in Hong Kong with members attended. |

The ‘Red Packet Handicraft’ competition was held after Chinese New Year aiming to enhance the environmental awareness of public. Children were encouraged to make use of red packets and create useful items. The winner fell to a Pen stand which have got the concept from the shape of Olympic Hall ‘Bird’s nest’. |

A cooking workshop on ‘Chinese New Year Snacks’ was held for minority families in early February. Traditional Chinese New Year Habits and greetings were also introduced in the workshop. |

About 50 students from Centro Escolar University, Manila visited Home Management Centre in end January. Cooking demonstration by our Home Economist, Anita was arranged. The students were amazed to see the modern setting of electric kitchen in the centre. |
